Skiing and snowboarding

The Aletsch ski resort is located between 2000 and 3000 meters with views of the Matterhorn. The resort offers guaranteed snow in a sunny area of the Alps. There are ample black slopes, but more red and blue slopes and all are in perfect condition between December and April. Ski schools are running everyday and skiing material is for rent in the shops up the mountains. In the ski resort are a few fun parks, speedometers and off-piste tracks. It is possible to make day trips and return by bus or train. Restaurants are everywhere. Skiing in Belwald or Zermatt can be done as well.

Hiking and glaciers

With the mountain sport-center in Fiesch you are the heart of the hiking area. There are lots of different hikes on offer, from beginners till experienced climbers. You can go with a guide for a couple of days or only for a few hours. An example is a tour to the Concordiahütte via the Marjälensee to the Aletschglacier. Hiking gear is for sale and hire in the locale sport shops.

Paragliding

The feeling of paragliding is indescribable. There are tandem flights on offer and you can hire gear as well for the experienced paragliders. Fischeralp is European delta and Paragliding Mecca. Sometimes it is even possible to fly from Fiescheralp to the Grimsel passage. It is even fun see how they take of in winter and summer. They launch from Kühboden.

Rafting

Rafting is another sportive option. It runs between May and September, the tracks goes from Oberwald till Glüringen in 2,5 hours.

Mountainbiken

Bikes are for in Fiesch and some train stations. You can return the bikes at every train station in Goms and take the train home again. There are various routes set out for different levels: easy, medium and for experienced riders.
You can even take you bike up the mountains in the gondolas.

Cross-country

Goms, the Rhône valley offers great cross-country possibilities. You can cross-country to ones side of the valley and return by train. There are discounted train tickets available at the tourist information centers. Every tourist information center has cross-country ski maps. All material is available for sale/hire in the local sport shops.

Nature & Culture

Hikes, snowshoeing and Nordic walking

All mountain hikes are marked with colored marker poles. There are some beautiful hikes in wintertime in Binntal and Obergoms.

Nature

Due to location, climate and rock formations the area offers a big variety of wonderful flora. Most special is the Unesco world heritage the Aletsch Arena, a lot of wild life can be found here like: deer, mountain goats, Alpine Ibex and marmots. The landscape around Binntal is scattered with patches of wild Edelweiss, Succelent can be found at the Südrampe (Southramp) and Obergoms what turns golden yellow in autumn.

Culinary

Cäsar Rits is the founder of the culinary tradition in the area. There are a few good restaurants that use local produce and have won international prices. You could go on a culinary trip by bicycle, train or foot. Local delicatessens are Nusstorte (nut pie), trockenfleisch (dried meat), Cholera (vegetable pie) and cheese from the Alps.

Golfing

Obergesteln and Riederalp offer 9 hole golf courses. There is an 18 hole golf course in Susten. Golf tournament are regularly organized, also in traditional clothing.

Classic music

Ernen is a 17th-century village, that is known for organizing classical music concerts

There is also a museum from poet Rilke in Raron, the saffron festival in Mund, the old traditional blackened Oberwallischer towns, tulips in Grengiols, the historical castle city of Sion surrounded by vinyards and the Kneipproute in Blitzingen.

One of the highlights is taking the gondola up to 3000 meters and skiing all the way to Luxlax or tobogganing on the 13 km long toboggan path. The gondolas up the mountain are a 5-minute car drive or you can utilize the free shuttle bus from Luxlax.There is also the opportunity to ski at Belwald and Zermatt.There are various hiking trips with the added option to return by bus or train during winter and summer.
Restaurants are everywhere.

Mountaineering and hiking

The area offers a great variety of hiking and mountaineering. There are set climbing routes around the Eggishorn and a rope park only 5 minutes away from Luxlax. The rope park is a fun challenging activity for the whole family.
Overnight hiking trips are an option as well and by using a guide you could hike to the Concordiahutte via the Marjälensee and the Aletschglacier.
The Aletsch arena also has canyoning available and all materials can be sourced at the local shops for hire or sale.

Gnome hike

The gnome hike is a hiking track for kids. It is a track from Lax to Fiesch which is indicated by “Gogwargini”. Just behind Luxlax you will find the first gnome of the track.

Swimming and wellness

There are 2 different facilities to go swimming: Feriencenter in Fiesch or the Thermalbad Briggerbad, which has the longest waterslide in Europe. Thermalbad Briggerbad is open all year long and offers swimming pools, sauna and wellness. It will take a 20 minutes car drive to Briggerbad and we highly recommend it for the whole family.
